THE SPASE: “You’re getting us, not us writing to meet someone else’s expectation.”

FROM WIDNES on the banks of the River Mersey, THE SPASE – Andy Forrest (guitar/vocs), Simon Morris (guitar/drums), and Peter Walker (bass), undoubtedly draw inspiration from the musical legacy of near-neighbours, Liverpool, and Manchester

And clocking in at a mighty five minutes, latest single, ‘Anything Other Than You,’ gives a hint of what the young trio may eventually achieve.

“The song is a look at the way I see many people not listening to each other because they have a different view,” explained Walker. “I don’t think it will lead us to a good place if we can’t even tolerate people who we disagree with, we should be able to hold conversations with them.”

With a foot in the past, one eye on the future, ‘Anything Other Than You’ could easily become a soundtrack for any potential second British invasion, a new take on the sounds of ‘60s northern England, and if this turns out to become the benchmark against which all other newcomers are measured, it’s no bad thing.

“I think what sets us apart from other guitar, indie, rock bands is that we aren’t writing or recording to make a hit so to speak,” adds Walker. “The music we’re making is us for us, based on the books we read, or the things we’ve felt or seen.

“And as cheesy as it may sound, we’re three friends that are recording music we want to play based upon our experiences or perspectives. If you took one of the three out of the equation, you get different sounds or songs.

“When people listen to The Spase, it’s something we hope they like, but know it wasn’t necessarily made for them, but resonates with them from a shared perspective we have. You’re getting us, not us writing to meet someone else’s expectation.”
