Nothing ‘Temporary’ about Belgian shoegazers

ANTWERP’S shoegaze outfit NEWMOON have just released their third studio album, Temporary Light,’ via [PIAS] Recordings (EU) and Manifesto Records (US).

And it’s an album full of magical moments, harking back to the band’s roots, yet retaining a fresh approach keeping their music at times alluring, dreamy, and abrasive. Airy vocals blend with lush guitars, creating an immersive experience sweeping the listener off their feet and into a striking, distant, new world.

“Thick layers of guitars always felt natural to us and are kind of our main thing,” said singer Bert Cannaerts.

“We wanted to explore some ideas that have been in the back of our mind ever since we started this band. As soon as we let go of trying to write a specific type of album, the songs grew organically, and everything just clicked.”

Joined by new drummer Conor Dawson, album number three marks an exciting chapter in NEWMOON’S evolution. The band’s signature feel for grand, yet delicate, melodies clearly enriched by Dawson’s rhythmic finesse, bringing an added layer of depth and musicality.

NEWMOON once again enlisted engineer and producer Thomas Valkiers to record ‘Temporary Light,’ with Slowdive’s Simon Scott responsible for the mastering.
