FULL OF BRASS, SHADES OF BOWIE & BOND: MAGGOT HEART’S NEW ALBUM, ‘HUNGER’

MAGGOT HEART are back with their third album, ‘Hunger,’ released via Rapid Eye Records/Svart Records, recorded in Berlin and mixed by acclaimed American producer and engineer Ben Greenberg (Metz, Portrayal Of Guilt).

A Berlin-based rock/punk crossover band, the trio comprises guitarist and singer Linnéa Olsson, bassist Olivia Airey and drummer Uno Bruniusson.

Originally from Sweden, Olsson formed Maggot Heart as a solo project in 2016, having made a name for herself in bands like The Oath, Beastmilk/Grave Pleasures.

With two critically acclaimed albums under their belt, the 2017 ‘Dusk To Dusk’ and 2020’s ‘Mercy Machine,’ Maggot Heart have been compared to such diverse acts as Patti Smith, Sonic Youth, The Stooges, Killing Joke and Voivod.

The eight track ‘Hunger’ is full of tight choruses, powerful, driving rhythms, guided by a wall of grunge, all layered beneath a bewildering Swedish 70’s proto-metallic sound.

Songs like ‘This Shadow’ and ‘Archer’ grab the attention with their abrasive pop hooks and Bowie-esque jazz brass sections, while ‘Scandinavian Hunger’ develops somewhat surprisingly into a potential Bond theme.
