MURDER CLUB: Sassy selfies and the sounds of the Shangri-La’s

OUT of Newport, South Wales, riot-grrrl indie-poppers MURDER CLUB today launch the Shangri-La’s infused, Hole inspired, ‘Pictures of Myself,’ via Venn Records.

“The song is an anthem for the folks who like to take their time when they’re getting ready,” said Kristy Cromwell, (bass, vocals).

“We will not be rushed, and we cover the big issues – was cutting bangs a bad idea? Am I too old to wear these heels, and what is the best light for my selfie?!

“But in all seriousness, getting ready for a night out is a holy act. Whether alone or with your besties, it is a rite of passage to have fun and panic in equal measure. Is it better than the night out itself? That’s a personal decision.

“We had a lot of fun filming the video and wanted it to be an accurate representation of getting ready for a night out, but ironically, we didn’t actually go on a night out after spending all that time getting dolled up. We did go for food, but it was early afternoon, and we were all home by seven – we’re fakers!”

Formed in December 2020, the girls got together whenever possible in between lockdown restrictions, with debut EP, ‘Sour Candy,’ released in February 2022, exploring matters of catcalling, bad boyfriends, and being afraid to stick up for yourself.

Following a tour with The Wedding Present, the foursome returned to the studio to record their latest EP, ‘The Night Out,’ with Richard Jackson (The Nightmares, Parcs, The Automatic, Super Furry Animals, Pretty Vicious).

Joining Cromwell in the band are, Ellie Couburn (guitar, vocals), Elisha Djan (drums), and Lily Gray (synth, vocals).
