FROM TORSHAVN WITH LOVE: LENA ANDERSSEN’S ‘HOME TONIGHT’

LENA ANDERSSEN announces new single ‘Home Tonight,’ released today via SonManic Records.

The single comes from the Faroese-Canadian artist’s forthcoming sixth album, ‘State of the Land’ (release date 26 January 2024) which was recorded in Los Angeles with legendary English recording engineer Geoff Emerick, known for his pioneering work with The Beatles on the ‘Revolver,’ ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,’ and ‘Abbey Road’ albums.

And the record has already garnered unforeseen significance as the last full album Emerick worked on before his untimely death.

“’This was the first track we recorded with Geoff,” said Anderssen.

“I remember being nervous that Monday morning on our way to the studio. How was the same man who recorded Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Kate Bush, and Elvis Costello going to be when I stepped into the vocal booth? Well, Geoff was a dream to work with, a real gentleman, so sensitive and honest. He always made you feel that ‘just being yourself’ was the best way to be.”

Rich in melody and harmony, the new songs set folk and Americana within the sonic landscape of classic ‘70s pop.

‘State of the Land’ will be yet another landmark step in Anderssen’s musical journey – from being discovered in her early twenties while singing to herself waiting tables at a coffee shop in the Faroese capital, Torshavn, to playing international tours, supporting Roxy Music, Beth Hart and Xavier Rudd, and having her songs featured in major TV series Scrubs, Felicity and Nikita.

Early singles Aimee (2020) and The Airport (2021) enjoyed widespread support before the world locked down for Covid, delaying the album’s completion yet further – until now.
