DUBINSKI: Life on the road, Arizona, New York, and this new video

EDINBURGH-based brothers DUBINSKI have just released their ‘New York Arizona and This’ single, a song offering commentary on the struggles of an independent, touring band.

“This is a song written about driving from Edinburgh to London to play shows with no idea of what to expect,” said singer Eugene.

“We were ‘DIY’ and trying to push our touring as much as we could, only to be occasionally ripped off by venues and promoters, or playing to rooms of people that didn’t seem to give a damn about the music or the scene, to then make the long journey back home to Scotland.”

Originally from North Yorkshire, DUBINSKI (their late mother’s maiden name) are four inseparable siblings, Eugene, Fergus, Donal and Eoin Gaine.

A shared love of music was the common thread amongst the four. Having moved to Scotland, deciding to raise the bar of their childhood music ‘hobby’ and make a proper go of it.

“Experiencing London, Camden in particular, as a country lad from Scotland, was eye opening in a bittersweet way,” adds Eugene. “Some expectations were fulfilled, and others were brought down to earth, like the magic buzz around hip bars, meeting trendy people, the romantic notion of a city of opportunity paired with the dirty, fast paced, ‘take no prisoners’ atmosphere that comes with a big city. The chorus is about dreaming of touring the States and having worldwide recognition, leaving the DIY scene behind, and proving to the unwilling, the ‘too cool to move’ scene kids, that we are worth paying attention to.”

Recorded at London’s RAK Studios, the band released their self-titled, debut album last year, a heady mix of punky, new wave, and spiky Britpop.
