DAVEY LONG’S FORMIDABLE DOUBLE: New album and powerful single both released today.

IRISH musician and multi-instrumentalist Davey Long today releases not only his debut album ‘Eitilt’ but also his latest single, ‘Flesh & Blood’ – an environmental activists’ call for change.

In a year that has witnessed catastrophic changes to our environment, Long has dropped words of melodic wisdom about the fragility of life, marrying alt-rock to a hint of bass and drum whilst at the same time maintaining a heavy groove, skilfully shifting dynamics throughout the song.

While subjecting any single to a specific genre is a game clearly fraught with peril, several reviewers have likened this one to the days of ‘old school pop-rock’ with hints of David Bowie, Pink Floyd and U2.

The song features a reputable array of musicians including Dave Gough on bass, Rob Larkin on keys, Shane O’Dwyer and Eoin Drennan on guitar, James Delahunty on synth with Long also taking the lead on production. Martin Quinn helping with the mix at Jam Studios.

Flesh & Blood is one of three singles teased off Long’s new album which also features notable contributions from the likes of Kealan Kenny and Sara Ryan.

And despite the recent spell of Lockdown’s hampering many artists, Long continued to work and put the seclusion to good use.

“Being a musician changed during lockdown in many ways,” he said.

“It forced me to think about remote recording. It also meant recording in isolation and that was really strange. It slowed down the process of completing songs as I was file sharing with other musicians. It was like recording in a virtual bubble whereas being in a shared physical space with other players allows music to flow quickly. I enjoyed the isolation though! It was a peaceful time, and it was great to get 13 songs together into my new album.”

Long has appeared on several distinguished albums including Celtic Woman’s Grammy nominated ‘Destiny’ and The Fundamentals ‘Past and Present Collide.’

He has also toured extensively with The Kilkennys and his song, ‘Lampedusa’ was featured by the charity Open Arms in their social media campaigns highlighting the current migrant crisis in the Mediterranean.
