OUR desert island album: distant images

WE really thought about an album that was important to both of us and that we would choose if we were stuck on a desert island. Choosing one album is such a difficult task. We went back and forth and considered Pink Floyd and Kate Bush who are artists that really inspire us, but an album we both love is Fleetwood Mac – Rumours.

This is an incredible album from start to finish. We thought if we had to listen to only one album on a lonely desert island then this would have the light and shade needed to get us through.

Our favourite song would have to be ‘The Chain.’ We love the iconic bass line. The vocals on this are outstanding. The harmonies are just absolutely beautiful. We have to mention the guitar solo because up until that point the song is slowly building, and it just releases all the energy that’s been building throughout. We love the contrast between the beginning and end of the song. The song ends in a completely different place from where it began, from a slow acoustic intro and harmonies to an all-out race to the finish but it all fits and makes sense. This is a song we could easily have on repeat. In fact, it’s a song we would love to cover one day.

Another stand out from the album is ‘Go Your Own Way.’ The drums and the bass are excellent. Really locked into the groove.

‘Don’t Stop’ is another great song. The melody and tempo are really upbeat but the lyrics are about moving on. It’s a really good message about finding strength in hard times (like being stuck on a desert island.)

‘Dreams’ is another track which we love. Stevie Nick’s vocals are beautiful. ‘Oh Daddy’ has such a cool vibe throughout. The guitar on ‘Never Going Back Again’ really catches you and overall, the harmonies, melody and vibe of the whole album is amazing. This would be the perfect album to keep us company.
